Good Morning Rang a Cúig,
Can you believe we only have three days left together? After Friday you will all be the most senior students in our school...no pressure! I have no doubt you will all be well able for it and will rise up to the responsibilities that come with being a 6th class student in our school.
Many of you are probably aware by now that I will not be your teacher next year, you will have the wonderful Mrs Gillick teaching you for 6th class while I will be teaching in one of our classes for children with autism. I will miss each and every one of you but I will not be that far away and you can bet I will come and visit you. Who knows, maybe I'll even bring my sidekick with me. I promise, I will talk to Mrs Gillick and we will do our very best to arrange something so that you can get to meet your favourite puppy at some stage. The funny thing is, I think that even though some of my classes in the past got to meet Indie, I reckon you guys know her better than anyone having seen and heard about all her antics and adventures over this past term. I tried to get a selfie with her just now for you but she wasn't too cooperative so the first picture is what happened when I tried and the second is what she wanted to be doing instead!

We will all have some challenges ahead of us and I hope you are looking forward to yours as much as I am looking forward to mine. I have been working in our school for a long time, I have always worked in the top school and a lot of my teaching has been in 5th or 6th class so I am a little bit worried about moving to a new building (I will be in St Joseph's Centre) and teaching a new age group. BUT, I am also VERY EXCITED about it. I am excited to be doing something new and different and to be meeting a whole new group of students. Even though change can sometimes be hard, it can also be good for us and we can learn so many new things from it.
I am sure there are things you are worried about for 6th class, but let me tell you one thing first. I was SO DELIGHTED when I heard you would have Mrs Gillick as your teacher. I think you are really going to enjoy 6th class with her, I am so excited for you and for all the exciting things you will do with Mrs Gillick in 6th class. Some of you asked me a few questions about 6th class today so I will tell you what I know for now.
* You will be moving across the corridor to the classroom Ms Hurley was in before we closed.
* This classroom has lockers in it which will be great for you to get used to before you move to secondary school.
* I don't know how 6th class jobs will work next year because of the Covid-19 and social distancing situation, but you can be sure that you will be given extra responsibilities as the senior members of the school.
* I am sure you will do plenty of project work and other activities which will also be great preparation for secondary school.

One thing I know for sure, Rang a Cúig, is that you are all going to be AMAZING 6th class students. Each and every one of you is ready for 6th class and everything that will come with it. I am so proud of how hard you worked this year but more importantly, I am so proud how you coped with what turned into a very strange and sometimes challenging year and I know you will bring everything you have learned from this experience with you as you move forward to 6th class.
I don't know about you but I have so many memories from our year together: Our walk to the woods, the Write a Book Project, visiting Santa in the Junior School, GAA with Jackie, Popstars the Musical in the Mermaid Theatre, Cá Bhfuil Scruffy?, UNO, Unpacking the Chrome Books and being the first students to use them, FUDGE! FUDGE!! FUDGE!!! Let me know if you have any more memories that I haven't mentioned, I am sure there are things I have forgotten. Even though Covid-19 changed things up alot, the biggest positive it brought me is that you will always hold a special place in my heart. In years to come, when the story of this time is written in the history books and you are all out in the world working as teachers, engineers, artists, writers, footballers, plumbers, hairdressers, scientists, film directors, actors/actresses, nurses, doctors and so on I will be sitting with my friends talking about this time and I will always think of all of you. You are my "Covid Class" and you will always be my "Rang a Cúig". I think I will forever call you "Rang a Cúig", even when you are technically "Rang a Sé" or "Bliain a Haon".
You should all be very proud of yourselves Rang a Cúig, I know I am.
Send me in your reflections and memories over the next few days, I'd love to hear from you.
Have a great day today,
Take Care & Stay Safe,
Ms Cheevers
