From the 27th of April until the 3rd of May, Newtownmountkennedy P.S. took part in an Active HOME Week challenge. Pupils were active for 60 minutes and completed 4 different types of exercise every day. Each day of Active HOME Week the children picked two new activities to try. The challenge was all about getting up, moving as much as possible and having fun. You can see in the pictures below that Josh from 2nd class, Adam from 5th class and Dylan from 6th class did a great job completing the challenge and had brilliant ideas of ways to stay active. Well done to all the children who participated in Active HOME Week!
We participated in active schools week from Monday the 24th September to Friday the 28th September. On Monday we set off on our first challenge which was run around Europe. Children ran laps of both school yards with the aim of reaching as many countries in Europe as possible. By Friday the school had reached 4571 kilometers, this meant we made it to over 30 countries in Europe. On Tuesday the children all got to dance in their classroom which was great fun. On Wednesday all classes participated in yoga. On Thursday the children in the junior school took part in circuits while the children in the senior school took part in fun and run. On Friday we raised our active schools flag and celebrated the school receiving the active flag at the end of the last school year. We had a great week. As part of our Active Week in May, the pupils were challenged to run a marathon -over 26 miles- as a school. They far exceeded expectations and together managed to run 6 marathons! Well done to all those who took part!As part of our Active Week in May Wicklow Sports Partnership visited our school. Pupils really enjoyed the Athletics Day with the coaches and had lots of fun practising skills they knew and learning some new ones! The whole school took part in Active Week from Monday the 26th September to Friday 30th September . The students and teachers took part in a variety of active activities each day. Students took part in the ‘Run around Europe’ campaign. Students also took part in a Skipathon. On Friday each class in the Junior School took part in circuits. Activities included hook a duck and do the exercise, skipping, limbo and bean bag throwing. Junior classes were helped by students in 2nd class. Everyone had a great week! First, each class got a time out on the yard.
Then they all lined up to start off with, then we all did the whole perimeter of the yard. Each person had to do ten laps. If people had finished their ten laps they could do more. Then the teachers could write the number on the scoreboard and tally them up to see how far we've got. The class who had the best score would get extra time out on the yard. We had so much fun! by Ava Davis, 4th Class |
