I just wanted to quickly upload a few photos of a very busy but enjoyable December in First Class. There was fierce excitement as the holidays approached. I'd like to wish you and your families a relaxing and well-earned break and only best wishes for 2021!! Posting our letters to Knockrobin Hill nursing home!  Marshmallow snowman cookies! November in Rang a hAon was full of learning and fun! We started out learning about different food groups, healthy eating and we did an experiment to see how much sugar was in a range of popular drinks. I forgot to take a picture of this but I remember that the children predicted correctly that there would be a lot of sugar in Coke but they were surprised at the amount in orange juice. We then set up a Dentist's role-play area where the children pretended to be patients, dentists, dental nurses and receptionists. They also learned about the different type of teeth we have, their functions and how to keep them healthy. You will also see photos of our other structured play areas where the children learned about flossing (not the dance!), made models of teeth with Play-doh and pegs, and had fun making dental tools from junk art. All month we were working on narrative writing. We read a lot of stories and focused on the characters, setting, problem/solution. The children then got in groups and created their own characters; they drew large posters of them and described them. (You should be able to see the big veggie-characters in the photos). We then worked on recognising the beginning, middle and end of a story. We read a lovely story called 'Clarabella's Teeth' and the children had to recall the story and write a sentence for each part of the story. (There is an example of the 'flip-book' we made in the photos). We also wrote a story together about 'Cheeky Chico' the monkey who got lost! Here are a few last photos of the children working on constructions during morning activities, some phonics whiteboard work and ordering numerals 1-30. We also did some group art-work with oil pastels, focusing on the contrast between day and night. |
