Here are the last few photos from our Junior Infant year. So hard to believe that we've only a week left but I hope you all have a wonderful summer! I'm delighted to have your little ones again in the next school year and I look forward to seeing how much they've grown in September! :-) I wish you all the very best and I'll leave you with some pics of super patterns and our fun Teddy Bear's picnic this afternoon.
The air was humming with excitement and singing last Thursday morning, as 53 enthusiastic children piled on the bus, eager to get to Kia Ora farm. There were no complaints as they ate their snack in the sun and got ready to have some serious fun! There were small animals, bigger animals, tractors, bikes and even real life diggers! Children could play in the massive sand pit or gently cuddle baby rabbits. They had freedom to run around in the maze, come down the big slide or play games with their friends on the green. The excitement was mighty and soon it was time for lunch (and a surprise ice-cream afterwards)! After lunch there was just enough time to feed the larger animals and then came the sought-after highlight of the day... a ride on a fire-engine with real sirens! The children enjoyed this adventure and sang along to their heart's content. After a final count to make sure we had everyone, we headed back to Newtown with a sleepy bus of boys and girls where they were happy to see their Mums, Dads and minders. Well done to everyone for being 'as good as gold'! :-) This will be a quick update post with some photos of March and April- including learning about butterfly life-cycles, the café and Space Travel. There are also some of our 'GoNoodle' dances, Green Day and when we had 2 lambs visit our classroom.. Enjoyyy! ...And check back in for pictures of our school tour etc. in a few weeks! :-) Wow, where has February gone!? We have had loads of fun this month learning all about animals and the running of a veterinary surgery. The children have loved pretending to be the vet, animal groomer, receptionist and pet owners. They have learned about stethoscopes, injections, reflexes and filling out forms about their pets. They have also constructed vet surgery in groups, made play-doh animals and had loads of fun learning about capacity in the sand pit. I'm afraid I've no photos of the vet surgery to post now but hopefully you'll see it in my next post. I do, however, have photos of some very special visitors to our class in February... Some of the 3rd class pupils came down to spend time with the Junior Infants and read stories to them in groups: the little ones were delighted! :)
The children have enjoyed buying and selling in our lovely flower shop this month. They have learned about many types of flowers, including daisies, roses, poinsettia, dahlia, lavender, chrysanthemum and ferns. They've also learned about the parts of a flower, planted flowers in the sand pit, made paper flowers with Joan, painted flowers, designed their own flower shops with Lego and Play-Doh.
In P.E. this month we are doing gymnastics (which the children seem to love!). so I'll try to put up a few photos of that too. Enjoy! :-) We had a very busy but a enjoyable December! Our activities included writing, packaging and stamping letters and presents, wrapping parcels, delivering letters, making clay Christmas decorations, making cards... and using LOADS of glitter!!
We also had a great Christmas play- well done to all the children and thanks to parents/ guardians for coming! I hope you enjoy these photos... as you can see, we also had a visitor with a white beard! I'm eventually getting a chance to update our blog for November! We had great fun learning about owls and we even met an owl!!! We made clay nests, owls pictures with feathers, nests with straws... and much more! :-)
We've been learning loads about owls as our Aistear theme this month but we've been so busy that I've forgotten to take photos so far (watch this space- I hope to add another post at the end of the month). However, we had a very successful Science Week last week with loads of fun activities, as well as a taste test in the classroom (in these photos the children were tasting lemons- they also had tasted sweets, natural yoghurt and salty crisps). Again in this post I haven't been able to add all photos but I will add more once all the consent forms are returned. The children enjoyed doing the story "Room on the Broom" for our Aistear theme for October. I didn't get a chance to get many photos but I did get a photo of each group dressed up for the Friday before midterm, as well as a few other activities. Enjoy the cuteness :)
Welcome everyone to our Junior Infants blog! :) Sorry about the delay getting this up and running, but it has been a busy few months. I'm glad to be able to say that all the children have settled in well now and lots of work and play is happening everyday. I plan to have a monthly post on this little blog- just to give you a look into some of the activities we're doing... Here are a few photos from September including Play-doh, Lego, the Three Bear's Kitchen (which turned into more of a restaurant), puppet play and sand (which seems to bring even the shyest children out of themselves). Enjoy!
