6th Class recently decided to take their sponsored walk further afield and challenged themselves to do the Cliff Walk from Greystones to Bray in order to raise money to fund their 6th class leavers’ hoodies.
They took the 9.30a.m. bus from Newtownmountkennedy to Greystones and set off towards Bray. The weather wasn’t the best but thankfully it stayed reasonably dry. The students were accompanied by Ms Cheevers, Jenny, Ms Lennon as well as Sorcha’s, Leon’s and Darragh’s Mums, Charlie’s Nanny and Harry’s Dad. It was a lovely walk and not quite as tough as some of the students expected. It took about an hour and a half to walk to Bray, and a brief stop was taken along the way to sing Happy Birthday to Leon. Many other walkers admired the 6th class hoodies as they passed by.
On reaching Bray, the students stopped for a picnic lunch of chips and ice-cream and played on the stones and on the water’s edge for a while. Before leaving Ms Cheevers asked every student to pick a stone from the beach and bring it home with them, promising that the stone would be used for something later on. They would have to wait until Graduation to find out what they were for.
After lunch, the class walked up to Bray Dart Station and waited for the bus home. It was a bit delayed but finally came and brought everyone back to Newtownmountkennedy by 2.30p.m. just in time for hometime. Ms Cheevers reported that they had walked 10km in total – a pretty good achievement for everyone. The students raised about €900 in total for their sponsored walk which was more than enough to cover the cost of their hoodies.
