Good morning Rang a Sé,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I received some fantastic projects on Native Americans, well done! If some of you are still working on them and haven't finished them yet, that is no problem you can send them to me when you are finished. I know some of you have completed them but are unable to send them to me, don't worry about that. I am sure you have learned a lot about Native Americans by completing your project. Some of you might have heard during the week that many Irish people were donating money to help the Native American Navajo and Hopi families fight the coronavirus in the United States. People in Ireland wanted to help as in 1847, members of the Choctaw tribe raised $170 to help Irish people during the famine, which was a lot of money at a time when they had so little. This is a picture of the sculpture 'Kindred Spirits' which was built in Cork to say thank you to the Native Americans who helped during the famine.
You also might have heard that Banksy has been busy working from home too! New artwork appeared at Southampton General Hospital with a note for hospital workers that said 'Thanks for all you're doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it's only black and white.' Perhaps there is someone you would like to say thanks to by drawing a picture or writing them a note.
Keep an eye on the 'Outdoor activities' section of the school website under the 'Covid 19' tab for some easy things to do while you are out and about. You can send pictures or drawings of your findings to c19@parentsupport@newtownprimary.ie with the subject 'outdoor activities'.
Have a lovely week,
Take care,
Ms. Maguire
