The children had such a great time on their school tour last Friday to Kia Ora Farm. Well done to everyone for being on their best behaviour and for making the school tour a memorable experience for all!!! We were sad that one or two of our classmates couldn't come because they were sick, but we'll be having more fun events before the end of the year to make up for it! Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sun... So far this month we've learned all about the farm, through fun stories such as Rosie's Walk and Rooster Trouble! The children have enjoyed playing in a farm shop that we have set up, as well as making farms out of blocks and exploring what comes from the farm. We're very excited about our upcoming school tour!! Check back here in a few weeks for photos from Kia Farm. (School tour this Friday 19th May; thank you to most of the parents who have already paid) Since my last post (sorry it has been a while!), the children have been enjoying a range of art activities such as junk art, sock puppets and moulding clay. Over the past week they have been experimenting in different ways to shape and model clay and next week we hope to make and paint some creations. Hopefully you'll have their 'masterpieces' brought home to you in the coming weeks! :-) I feel very ahead of myself writing this blog so early but we started our theme on SPACE this past week and so far it has been such a hit with the children. They loved painting the cardboard rocket to go in the role-play area, they also enjoyed the two new Lego sets, a new writing table area, the construction-area hats and vests, and junk art. Here are some photos so you can see the fun they have been having. I also wanted to say thank you to the parents who were able to make it for 'Stay and Play' last Wednesday; it was lovely to have you in for a visit! :) The Junior Infants had loads of fun in February in the role-play area learning about the workings of a Vet Surgery. They decided if they would be the vet, surgeon, receptionist, customer or dog groomer and then had fun in their new roles. They learned about vaccinations, operations, feeding, cleaning and caring for animals. The children also enjoyed a number of other activities such as puppet shows, constructing a zoo and pretending to be both wild and tame animals. Here are some snapshots! We came back with a bang after our Christmas break and had a fun January in Junior Infants! We did a range of activities, focusing on the following themes; Winter, weight (in Maths) and animals. Here are some photos to let you in on the action! :-) As always, December was a fun but very busy month! The children enjoyed enteringn into the world of being a postal worker in their role-play area. They wrote letters and cards, got to stick stamps on them and make sure they got into the post office on time. Then the children pretending to work in the post office enjoyed collecting the post in their mail bag, stamped each letter and then delivered them to the correct child. This role-play area turned out to be one of the more popular ones! :-) The children also participated in their Christmas play "Nursery Rhyme Nativity". They worked so hard leading up to it and they all did such a great job performing it for al the Mums and Dads. Thanks everyone for coming, for making costumes and thanks to the children for being amazing on the morning! In all the busyness, I forgot to get photos of the children in their costumes but I know a lot of you took pictures so I think it was well documented! Here are a few photos of one of the groups playing at the role-play area (my New Year's resolution is going to be to remember to take more pictures for the blog)..... Wishing you all a happy and blessed 2017! |
