Here's a little taster of the Doctor's Surgery in Aistear (this was a big hit with the kids!) and a few photos from a nice Spring walk we had a few weeks ago. I'm thinking of you all as I write this and hope you are all keeping safe. Warm wishes being sent! Enjoy the photos... :-)
We learned all about Space in February. We had many adventures driving our spaceship, pretending to be astronauts and aliens, logging travel details, space walking, making rockets/ little alien friends, learning about the planets and life on the International Space Station. We also did some experiments playing with magnets and figuring out why they stick to some objects and not to others.
We were having so much fun in our restaurant that Ms. Leahy forgot to take photos! In January we enjoyed pretending to be chefs, waiters, waitresses, managers and customers in our very fancy restaurant. We had a variety of starters, main courses and desserts and sometimes we tried to make our teacher eat some very unusual dinners!! :-) We used our dolls houses and furniture to set up small-world restaurant and our sand pit turned into a baker's delight with amazing cakes being made. December was great fun in Junior Infants. We learned about the Post Office and how post is delivered. We loved playing in our pretend Post Office; we wrote our letters, weighed them, stamped them and posted them and then some of the others pretended to be postal workers and delivered them. We also made Post Office constructions and mail-themed Play-doh. We even took a trip to the real Post Office on the last day of term to post our Christmas cards. The children worked so hard at the Christmas play and did a great job on the day... even though we missed some of our friends who were sick! For November and December, a transition year student called Anne came in to help us for a few hours each week. She loved music and she played a variety of instruments for the children, including the French Horn, violin and piano. Here you can see her letting the children have a go of the violin, they loved it but some of them were too shy to have their picture taken!! The children learned all about owls in November and they loved our 'Owl Babies' story. They also had an exciting visit one day from 'Whiz' the owl which you can see here.
The children learned all about the Harvest and the Farmer's Market in October. They had fun pretending to grow and harvest their vegetables, delivering them and working at the farmer's markets. They took turns being customers and shop keepers; they learned the names of some new vegetables like beetroots, parsnips, sweet potatoes and turnips. We also looked for signs of Autumn on our Autumn Walk and enjoyed reading about the Enormous Turnip! The children settled in well the first few weeks of term one. They enjoyed learning about 'homes and houses'; we had a home corner, built lego homes together, learned about different rooms in a house and they had pretend birthday parties for each other. They also enjoyed learning nursery rhymes and doing art.
