Here we are, our final week! As you might know all the teachers recorded videos to say goodbye for the summer and they were sent out to parents as one big video. The end of this school year has been a bit strange and difficult but what an amazing start and middle we had! This week is all about looking back on the time since September to think about what we have experienced and achieved. I have posted some titles to Aladdin to help you reflect on your year. I would like you to work through these at your own pace throughout the week. You can write about things that happened in and out of school.
I thought since I was asking you to do it, it's only fair that I should share mine too!
1. My biggest achievement
My biggest achievement was organising Engineering Week in the junior building. As I used to work as an Engineer before I became a teacher I really enjoyed seeing everybody learn new things while having great fun. You all worked together to solve problems and create solutions and I definitely think there are some Engineers among you!
2.My biggest improvement
My biggest improvement was outside school. I worked really hard at improving my yoga. I found it helped me to stay calm and relaxed. When I first started I couldn't even touch my toes but as the months went on and with lots of practice I got more and more flexible. I have been keeping up my yoga at home during lockdown and it has really helped me to concentrate on one day at a time and not think or worry too much about things in the world around me that I cannot change.
3.My favourite lesson
I can't think of one lesson in particular but I loved teaching Gaeilge this year. You all improved so much with our ceisteanna gach maidin. Every week you got quicker and learned more, so maith sibh!
4.My favourite adventure
My favourite adventure happened just after the schools shut just before public walks were closed. I went on the Wicklow cliff walk with my parents. When I was much younger - maybe a senior infant or first class student- my mom or dad used to bring me on this walk about once a week. My dad has a great imagination and used to tell me that parts of the walk were actually Jurassic Park and that the big, round white rocks were actually dinosaur eggs! We used to spot lots of different animals on the walk such as snails (or shelackybookies as my family calls them), seals, a vareity of birds and sheep and their lambs. My dad hadn't been able to do the walk in many years as he has a very sore back but recently they had made a trail which made the walk easier and also he was feeling a bit better. So off we went on a lovely sunny day, nice and slow and taking lots of breaks to take in the view. It was really special to do the walk with them both again.
5.My funniest memory
You might remember at the start of the year when we were learning about the five basic senses; touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing. I was waiting to see how many you would get before telling you and I think we had about two or three on the board. One pf your classmates put their hand up and when asked said 'a sense of humour?'. We all had a good giggle when I explained but really I think he was dead right. Having a sense of humour is so important that I think we should add it in to make the six basic senses! Can you remember who said it?
6.My favourite memory
So many to choose from but I would have to say watching our Christmas play. I was so proud of you all. From our main characters to those who had one line, everybody did their best, had fun and put on a great show for the parents!
7.Something I will miss
I will miss you all! You are a wonderful group of children who work hard, treat each other with kindness have lots of fun. I enjoyed coming to school everyday and feel very lucky to have been your teacher!
