Welcome to Junior Infants!!
This will be our place for monthly updates about what we get up to in school.
We had a great first month in Junior Infants, getting used to our new surroundings and routines!
There was a lot of focus on settling in to school and understanding Aistear and other new parts of our day. We learned about Ourselves and our families, using the stories of Goldilocks and the three bears and The three little pigs.

We had a great first month in Junior Infants, getting used to our new surroundings and routines!
There was a lot of focus on settling in to school and understanding Aistear and other new parts of our day. We learned about Ourselves and our families, using the stories of Goldilocks and the three bears and The three little pigs.
Aistear
Our Aistear themes are covered over 2 weeks, where the students rotate through stations every 2 days. This month was 'myself and my family', and we explored this through the story of Goldilocks and the 3 bears and The three little pigs.
Role Play Area
| | We had role play station where the students took on the roles of the characters from the stories and recreated the story. We had the three bears house first of all, and on day 2 of the station babies were introduced, to add to the myself and my family theme. The students enjoyed taking care of the dolls and changing their clothes. We had 3 houses for the little pigs then for the second half of the month, and the students took it in turns being the pigs and the big bad wolf! |
Small world
Small world is where the students use mini figures and doll houses to enter into the roles of the characters. We had doll houses for the different pigs houses and the Bears house.
Art
| | This month we had an Arts and crafts table where students were cutting and sticking to make bears from paper plates for the first half of the month and then for the next 2 weeks they were working together to create a whole class art piece. Each group painted large pictures to show the pigs houses and the characters from the story of the Three little pigs. This made a wonderful display in the hallway of our school! |
Construction
| We also had construction tables where the students were building the bears house or the pigs houses. The students often enjoy getting creative and imaginative with the Lego and can end up building anything from a house to a super tall tower, a shop or a flying spaceship! | |
We had lots of fun getting to know each other this month and we are excited to see what is in store for us for the rest of our year in Junior Infants!
