Welcome Back!
A great few weeks back in school after the Easter Holidays! We were very busy with our new topics and lessons!
We explored caterpillars and the lifecycle of a Butterfly with the help of our story 'The very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. We used this as our theme for Aistear and SESE also.
Also with the lead up to Active School week we were completing the challenge 'Run around Ireland'. Each day we tried to run laps of the yard in order to reach different destinations in Ireland. This was a whole school challenge, which every class was taking part in!

Aistear
| This month we looked at caterpillars! For our different Aistear stations we had: Construction, Small world, Art and Water. Construction involved using the sticky bricks to maybe build a caterpillar or a butterfly or their chrysalis. |
On the Art station we were working on a collaborative art display as a whole class. Each group got to paint a large piece of fruit from the story of the Hungry caterpillar and a piece of the caterpillar for the display. The students really enjoyed this as the paper was the size of the table and they were able to explore mixing of colours to make different variations and shades of the colour needed, as is used in the book.
| For Small world we used lego and could build a caterpillars home or the butterflies home. The students were able to get creative and inventive with exploring the different things a caterpillar may need in his home...apparently pizza and an umbrella is a must! |
Cuddle & Read | The water station was where we explored our maths topic of Capacity further and got to be more hands on! Using measuring jugs and different containers. The students could count how many cups or small containers of water to fill up the given jug. |

This month we began a programme in Junior Infants called 'Cuddle and Read'. Each Monday the students pick a story book and take it home for the week to read with their family. The book is then returned on Friday and they can pick a new one the next Monday! The students have really enjoyed picking out their books and enjoy reading them at home, we have had some lovely feedback about it already! It is a great way to expose the children to reading and encourage and foster a positive attitude towards reading.
April Reward

Each month we work towards a treat for the end of the month, this is a reward for good behaviour and no steps! This month (thanks to the dry weather) we were able to have an outdoor picnic! We did this in the schools outdoor classroom! A simple yet lovely treat, that the students really enjoyed!
