We have had a busy and enjoyable first term in Senior Infants. Well done to all the children for settling in so well.
In September, we learned all about different homes. We read the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and we made our own straw, stick and brick houses. We talked about Autumn and we went on a nature walk to look for signs of Autumn. Also, on our walk we saw a frog!
In October, we focused on people who help us in our community. During Aistear, we were acting in role as firefighters and Gardaí. We had great fun at both the Fire Station and the Garda Station.
In November, we learned about our five senses. We talked about the Opticians and we read the story ‘Arlo Needs Glasses’. We had great fun making our own glasses and drawing Arlo. The children loved taking turns at visiting our very own Opticians as part of Aistear. We went on a senses walk to the woods with our friends in Miss Dempsey’s class. We talked about the things we could see, smell, touch and feel. Science Week was on this month and we did an experiment called ‘Dancing Raisins’!
We also focused on food in November and we had our own Fruit and Vegetable shop at Aistear. We read the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and worked in groups to create a poster of the story. We learned the names of different foods in Gaeilge too. We read the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and we created pictures of the caterpillar using our handprints!
This month we are learning about the Post Office and we are practising writing letters/ cards and putting them in envelopes and posting them in our post box at Aistear. We will also be looking at and comparing toys from long ago vs today, talking about Winter and Advent. Finally, we have started practising our Christmas Play ‘The Littlest Christmas Tree’. It is a busy month ahead in Senior Infants!
