Everyone seem delighted to get back into the classroom at the start of March, the children have been working and playing hard!! Here's a summary of what we've covered since March.
In Gaeilge, we covered themes of 'Sa Bhaile' and 'Lá 'le Pádraig'. We had a week working on 'The Three Little Pigs' drama in Irish and the children did a great job acting out the story at the end of the week. We then worked on 'Ag Siopadoireacht' theme in April. Finally, the first week in May we covered some of 'An Teilifís'; the children enjoyed this as they got to pretend to be news reporters.
When we got back after lock-down, we focused on our listening skills in English through oral language and barrier games, as well as revising adjectives and nouns. In reading we've been working on our comprehension skills of visualising and retelling and we revised our explanation writing in class together also.
In April we started the Hegarty Phonemic awareness programme which helps us with a range of essential literacy skills; we also focused on the inferring comprehension strategy. The children enjoyed exploring procedural writing near the end of April and into May; they had a great time writing about how to make a hot chocolate (some of them informed us that they have a special machine so they just push a button 😅).
We finished off the topic of 'length' in Maths in March and then started '
