Maidin maith gach duine? Conas atá sibh go léir ar maidin?
Good morning everyone? How are you all this morning?
More rain today by the looks of things. Where has the sunshine gone? I hope it will come back by the end of the week so that we can officially begin our summer holidays!!
Yesterday I made a sacred space. I put it on the windowsill that looks out to the garden because I love my garden at the moment and like how it 'comes in ' through that window. I used a small little plant that I love because it is so tiny. To me, it is a symbol of strength because this little stem broke off a bigger plant and when put in soil, it survived and is doing really well despite only having a tiny amount of nourishment from the soil in this pot. I also used beautiful shells I have gathered from beaches I have visited. I have a little worry stone that I like to move around my hand and it has a calming feeling. I have a greeting card here too, with a lovely kind message from a special person and I have my gratitude journal and a little book of meditations. I like this little calm quiet spot in an otherwise very noisy and energetic house! I hope to sit here for a few minutes every day for some moments of quiet, calm and reflection to give my mind a little break and to think of what is good and right in my day.
Did you get a chance on Monday to make a scared space? What did you put in it? How do hope to use it ?
Today, your task was to make a Mandala. You can link this with your sacred space as they are often used as a tool for meditation. If you ever try to draw or make a mandala you may find it very calming and meditative, because it helps focus and still the mind. And they look beautiful when finished. A mandala pattern starts in the centre and radiates outwards and can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. You will see lots that occur in nature.
Try using items such as:
-found in nature such as fallen petals, twigs, stones, pebbles,
- food such as pasta shells, seeds, nuts, fruit pieces,
-stickers, labels etc
-shells., pebbles, seaweed etc
-drawings you make yourself
Here is a picture of one I made using game pieces and craft bits
Have a look at the mandalas that occur in nature all the time: Isn't nature AMAZING
Páistí, tá sé dochreidte go bhfuil na laethanta saoire anseo!
Children!, its unbelievable that the holidays are nearly here!
Can you believe it!!!
What an eventful year. 3rd class is definitely going to be a memorable year for you all! First you had a change of teacher, then school closed up, initially for 2 weeks and then for remainder of the school year and then I came back to school , but you didn't even see me!!...what an upside down year.....But you know what? You should all be very proud of yourselves for being able to manage all that upheaval and cope with such strange times and uncertainty. That's not always easy and I'm sure there may have been days for you or your family that were difficult. But isn't it nice to know that those days pass too, and brighter days are always ahead. The skills that you have gained during this experience will be useful in your future. I am very proud of you all.
So for this final week, we are going to take some time to reflect on the year that was 2019/2020.
Can you remember this time last year, when you were finishing up 2nd class? or September when you first came in to 3rd class. What has changed since then?
I bet you are an inch or two taller? Has your hair changed in any way?
Are there things you liked then that you don't like now? Maybe you follow a different sports team or like to listen to different music now?
Have you learned any new skill? or some new information? perhaps you have a new hobby?
What have you gotten better at? or still need help with? Have you achieved anything this year? What were your high points? or memories that stand out?
What are you thankful for in your life?
Have a look at the wheel below that I started of my memories and have a go at making one of your own where you can fill it in with any thoughts that arise when you ask yourself some of the questions from above. By the end, it will be filled with some memories or achievements from the school year.
You can draw pictures or write words, or both. When finished, attach some ribbon or wool and hang it in your room.
I would love to post these up on the blog if anyone would like to send me a picture of their one.
I will be posting up some nice activities or tasks for you to do through Aladdin this week. And keep an eye on the blog as I will update it during the week too.
For now I am going to leave you with a clip of a song we used to sing at the beginning of the year which reminds me of my time with you. Enjoy listening to it.
Some lovely summer rain falling today. Are you going to line up some nice things to do at home and enjoy being indoors or put on the wellies and splash in some puddles??? I think there will be some baking in my day today, and maybe a walk in the woods later. I love the smell of the earth in the woods after the rain and how lush all the greenery is.....the plants truly love a good shower of rain.
Okay rang a trÍ, bain sult as an lá!
Before I bid ye farewell for the weekend, here's a little short poem for the day that's in it with the rain......Imagine all the spiders whose webs get washed away in the rain, but yet out they come each time, and start spinning again so they can catch their flies like 'fly fishermen'. It is a reminder to me to keep getting back up when something knocks you down! Great resilience!
Remember also that Sunday is the longest day of the year. 5000 years ago people celebrated June 21st as the summer solstice, celebrating the power of the sun and its impact on the seasons and growing times for their food. People still celebrate it to this day in various ways around Ireland and the world. After June 21st, the days begin to get a little shorter as we begin to move slowly towards the Winter again. So for now, enjoy the warmer temperatures and long evenings, dip your toes in the sea and get out and about to enjoy the lush green of summer. Have a lovely weekend and will be in touch again in Monday for our very last week of the 2019/2020 school year!
BEST OF LUCK TO 6TH CLASS AS THEY 'VIRTUALLY' GRADUATE TODAY! Go n-éirí libh!
Hello everyone, how are you all keeping? Great to see the sunshine today again...I had been expecting rain!
Have any of you tried the Sports Week activities? I managed to land just 2 toilet rolls yesterday, getting sorely beaten by a certain blondie 7year old who got 3......just about!
I think Mr Keddy is made of elastic to be able to turn right around while balancing a shoe on his foot!! I'm definetly going to give it a go later!!How about you?
If anyone is having problems accessing files or video files on Aladdin, please let me know.
As usual, I would love to see photos or videos of your efforts. They are really good fun actIvities there...we are really enjoying them here.
Here's a few more ideas to keep the brain ticking over today.
OKAY 3RD CLASS, BÍ GO MAITH AND STAY WELL.

Good morning 3rd class! How are you all? I hope you are getting on well at home. Its cloudy today but we can still get out in the air!
So this week is Sports Week and we have plenty of fun activties and videos for you to watch. I have attached a file to each day on Aladdin which outlines these activities and videos. You are going to have a lot of fun while keeping your bodies fit and healthy. These are activities that the whole family can enjoy!
So get on those runners and eat yourself a good healthy wholesome breakfast. Don;t forget to wear sunscreen if you are outdoors and drink plenty of water!
Keep an eye on the blog as I will be posting up throughout the week and once again, I would love to get emails from anyone with pics/videos/drawings/words about how you are getting on! It would be lovely to see some of your fun up on the blog! So keep me posted!
Have a lovely day!
Bíodh lá maith agaibh!
Conas atá sibh go léir? An ndeachaigh aon duine ar an 'virtual' turas go dtí an National Museum inniu? Conas ar eirigh sibh?
Thank you to everyone who sent in a piece of art for the 'Le chéile Óna chéile/Together Apart'' Art Project...they are going to look great when displayed together. Today was the closing date, but I will still accept any more right up until Friday morning when they will be displayed. So its not too late!
Here are a few puzzles that might keep your brains busy over the next few days!
I'm sending something out to the first 5 of you who send me in some answers or thoughts about these puzzles!!!
A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LUKE TODAY. HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT DAY LUKE!
Maidin maith rang a 3! Conas atá sibh an maidin seo? Táim ar muin na muice ar maidin mar codail mé go sámh aréir! Ní tharlaíonn sé sin go minic!
So how did anyone go on the virtual trip to the zoo yesterday? Or try the camping trip on the outdoors activity section of the website? How was it? I would love to see some pics or read about how you got on if you did? email me firstname.lastname@example.org
And today is TheTitanic Experience. I am going to have a look at this one with the boys at home. They are interested in having a look since they are fascinated with ocean life and are amazed that the ship was found on the seabed.
We are going to try and make some boats to float.....maybe go to the woods and sail them on the river or just try in the bath tonight if time runs out! These pictures are giving us some good inspiration.
If anyone decides to do the camping tour today, here's a little riddle for you to try out!
Okay, remember to stay in touch and if anyone would like work or pictures posted up on the blog, let me know!
Bíodh lá maith agaibh páistí
Dia dhaoibh páistí...Conas atá sibh go léir? Tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh go maith agus ag baint taitneamh as an aimsir maith.
So this week is School Tours Week and every day on Aladdin, you will have a chance to go on a virtual school tour, and do some fun activities afterwards. Its a pity we can't actually go on tour because that would be great, but don't worry, there will be other times to go and maybe later in the summer you may get a chance to visit some places of interest with your families.
If there is a lot of demand on devices at home and you can only get a short time on a device to allow another family member to use it, or if you just want to cut back on screen time and get outdoors or active, have a look at the outdoor activities section of the website for a 'Camping' school tour where you can find a little spot in your house or garden and do some nice activities.
Also a reminder of the Le Chéile agus óna chéile Art Project. Thank you to all of you who have sent in art piece. They are lovely and show how resilient and hopeful you all are despite it being such an unusual and uncertain time at the moment. You have until this Wednesday 10th June to send in your picture....drop it to school foyer or email it to email@example.com We will be displaying them in the village on Friday and will put up details on that at the end of the week. So lets all get on board to make it a really cool project.
It might be nice to continue on this week with some of the Wellbeing activities from last week: the gratitude journal is a nice way to stay in touch with all the good things in our day, and to take note of little improvements we can make. We can feel better in ourselves when we see how we are making progress and being in charge of how we respond to things that annoy us upset us. Talking to someone at bedtime or dinnertime about highs and lows of the day is a nice way to share with our family too.
Keep an eye on the blog throughout the week. I will post up a few updates and maybe a few other ideas of activities you can be doing. Once again, I would love to hear from you....you can send an email or pictures of your work or activities...let me know what you are up to. I'm sure your friends would all love to see what you are keeping busy with. If I got a picture from all of you, I could post up a class catch up at the end of the week.
Remember to help out a bit at home, get outdoors, be creative, read, play, sing, have some quiet time and be active!
Mind yourselves and stay in touch!
