A new section has been created to provide information about the active Yellow Flag Programme in our school.  The Yellow Flag Programme brings interculturalism, equality and diversity into a whole- school programme. 

Did you know that the following cultures are represented in our school this year ( 2014-2015)?  : Irish, English, Welsh, Scottish, French, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Chinese, Iranian, Polish, Russian, Ukranian, Romanian, Indian, Australian, Vietnamese, Nigerian, Tunisian, American, Lithuanian and Moldovian.

Congratulations to Ella Spellman who recently won a medal for the Write a Book Competition.  

All of 5th class under the guidance of Ms. Cheevers worked very hard in creating  individual books for the children in Junior Infants.  

In December my teacher Ms. Cheevers got everyone in 5th class to write a short story for Junior Infants. We were all partnered up with a child in Junior Infants and had to write a story where your partner was the main character and it had to be about Christmas. I was partnered up with a boy called Ryan. I wrote a story called 'Ryan Saves Christmas'. It was about a boy called Ryan and one of Santa's reindeer, Dancer, who crash-landed in Ryan's back yard and is not able to fly. So Ryan has to mend Dancer's leg and then Dancer is able to fly again. The two of them then fly back to Santa's workshop and Ryan meets Santa. We had two weeks to write the book and it took me two weeks to write it, but fun at the same time. Once the two weeks were up and everyone had their books done, we went and showed our Junior Infant partners. I hope they liked them. My book was around 27 pages long and it had drawings on every page. 

Ms. Cheevers loved our books and entered them into the Write a Book competition. It took a couple of months for the judges to get back to us though. We were told who won the Write a Book Competition in assembly on the last day of school before the Easter holidays. I really wasn't expecting Mrs. Dempsey to say I won. But I was really happy.

I went to the Write a Book Awards on the 27th of April in Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel in Killiney. I went with my parents and my teacher Ms. Cheevers and the vice principal Mrs. Keyes came too. We were there for around an hour and I received a medal. It was a very nice medal. My mum took a picture of me up on the stage. It was a lovely night and I had lots of fun.

3rd class had an amazing day at the Irish National Heritage tour in Ferrycarrig last week. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day as can be seen in the many photos and writing description available on the 3rd class blog.
